This medical device is designed for a Taiwanese manufacturer is for use either in a doctor’s office, physiotherapy clinic or a home setting. The physical therapy device was developed to treat muscle conditions with micro shock waves transmitted via electrode pads placed on the critical areas in the body. The design was developed around existing electronics, but configured to allow a super-flat and elegant housing that also integrated an adjustable flatscreen monitor and cabling placed conveniently at the front. Primary functions figured prominently in the UX design and secondary functions were concealed behind a foldout flap. The colour scheme and logo were developed in such a way as to incorporate the company colour as both a signal of medical credibility and a brand element. For medical practice applications we designed a roller trolley that housed the complicated electrode cabling and storage of one-time-use adhesive pads. We developed 3 concepts for this client. The final design communicates simplicity and reliability both regarding engineering competence and ease of use.
