Gideon Loewy, profile
Professor Loewy (family name Löwy, also spelt Lowy) is an Architect-Designer, and over the years he has designed projects ranging in scale from a pouring cap for a TetraPak carton, to a high-rise building. His portfolio includes product design, visual communication design, packaging, space and exhibition design as well as architectural design. His works have received numerous awards including iF (Hanover), G-Mark (Japan), SMAU (Milan) and Innovalue Excellence (Taiwan). Working with premium, international companies for over 25 years, he has also become a branding specialist, and is a consultant to Taiwan's External Trade Organisation.
Born into an international family in England in the early 1950's he went to Denmark in the early 1970's to study architecture and design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. During his student years, he also lived in Paris, Florence and Warsaw. After graduating with a Master Degree in Industrial Design he opened his own studio (Loewy Design Denmark ApS.) in the early 1980's. His first client was Bang & Olufsen, for whom he designed for almost a decade. Up through the 1980's and 90's he also designed for Royal Copenhagen and other high-end, Danish companies.
In the mid-90's his work took him to the US and Asia (Japan, Taiwan & Korea) and he worked for the Swedish Foreign Aid Program in Sri Lanka. In 1998 he became involved in Regional Development as a strategist to government organisations in Denmark and Sweden. In 2002, he accepted a post as Professor of Industrial Design in Taiwan and moved his studio there in 2003. In 2006, this new studio, now called Scandinavian Designers® (Scandinavian Design Consultant Co. Ltd.), was selected as one of Taiwan's Top-Ten Industrial Design Companies.
In 1995 Gideon Loewy began developing the Scandinavian Designers® Tools and Methods Models. Since then, he has been an international specialist of Thinking, Creativity, Innovation and Design-led Business Development. He has been invited to many countries as a lecturer and a jurist, is a frequent speaker at international congresses and conferences and was a Visiting Professor at Seoul National University, Korea from 2007-8.
Gideon Loewy is married to designer Chia-Ling Liao, has two children and lives in Taichung, Taiwan where he is a consultant to the Urban Planning Committee. He is currently writing two books, one entitled "Care, Share, Fair® - Global Strategies for the 2010's" and the other "The C-Spot® - Creativity Right, Left and Centre" about Mind, Holistic Thinking and Integrated Creativity Management.
